Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations (UN), Permanent Mission of Denmark to the UN, UNDESA, UNESCAP, UNDP, UNCDF, ILO, ActionAid, Restless Development UK, Vital Strategies, South-South Network for Public Service Innovation (SSN4PSI) organized a side event named “DATA REVOLUTION FOR ENSURING DECENT WORK FOR ALL WITH A FOCUS ON YOUTH” as a part of “High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) 2019” on 15 July, 2019 at Conference Room F, UN Headquarters, New York. The primary objective of this side event was to bring together policy makers at the national level, international organizations, data experts, private sector, academia, major groups and other stakeholders to share best practices and exchange views on how governments can mobilize the data revolution to ensure decent work for all with a focus on youth. “We have utilized an intuitive yet powerful tool called “SDG Tracker” for comprehensive target setting and an indicator-by-indicator progress tracking of each SDG. We are monitoring and tracking the progress of SDG Indicator 8.5 and 8.6 that focuses on Decent Work for all and Youth Not in Employment, Education or Training (or NEET) population” said by H.E. Muhammad Abdul Mannan MP, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Planning, Government of Bangladesh in his opening remarks. Happening issues like shifting of government agencies to whole-of-government from silo to generate data for ensuring decent jobs for all with a particular focus on youth, development of data analytics platforms for policy makers to facilitate timely interventions, collaborative work of public agencies, private sector, civil society organizations and academia to leverage the true potential of data to leave no one behind for decent jobs, the effective avenues for international cooperation for capturing and using data on work and role of UN agencies in supporting the governments to develop appropriate capacity and policies to leverage data were addressed in this event with specific case studies and recommendations. Anir Chowdhury, Policy Adviser, a2i-innovate for all said “Whole-of-government coordination mechanism with convening authority, Inter operable data platforms with analytics & Openness to face the rapidly changing future of work and aggressive reskilling/up skilling plan are the ingredients of success in Human Resource Development (HRD) planning” during the keynote presentation. Welcome remarks was delivered by H.E. Martin Bille Hermann, Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission of Denmark to the United Nations. H.E. Masud Bin Momen, Ambassador and Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to the United Nations moderated the event. Representatives of different missions, international organizations, academia and major groups and other stakeholders participated in the event.
